Quick Review

A fresh and exciting addition to Victoria’s culinary scene — Uni brings contemporary Japanese cuisine to the waterfront with stunning dish presentations, inventive cocktails, and a menu that moves confidently between tradition and modern creativity. An experience worth dressing up for, even in casual attire.

Atmosphere

Uni has emerged as a fresh contender in the culinary arena, stepping into a location with an already-established ambiance. However, their efforts in transforming it into a more neutral environment have been commendable. Notably, they’ve introduced low tables to enhance accessibility, a subtle yet significant change for returning patrons. As Uni continues to infuse its unique personality into the space, I eagerly anticipate witnessing its journey of making it truly its own. While here, I enjoyed a great playlist of trending songs to act as the background to my meal.

Menu Highlights

Uni offers an expansive menu that seamlessly navigates from traditional Japanese dishes to innovative twists. From comforting bowls and exquisite Oshi-Zushi to appetizing Grilled Delights and captivating Omakase experiences, not to mention their Signature Rolls, the variety is truly impressive. Uni’s culinary philosophy masterfully melds tradition with modernity, resulting in dishes that expertly balance contrasting yet harmonious textures and flavours. Drawing inspiration from Japanese culinary trends, they aim to acquaint the local West Coast crowd with the latest delicious sensations from Japan. Each dish at Uni is a visual masterpiece, presented with such artistry that it almost feels almost sinful to disturb.

Their beverage selection is equally impressive, encompassing a delightful array of both alcoholic and non-alcoholic options. From Japanese beers to a curated lineup of Sake, each choice complements the diverse food offerings seamlessly. Uni’s creative cocktail menu ingeniously combines Japanese trends with locally sourced ingredients, promising a unique and refreshing drinking experience.

Inclusivity is also at the forefront of Uni’s ethos, with a plethora of Gluten-Free and Vegetarian options available to cater to diverse dietary preferences.

While there I had:
• Spicy Seafood Udon
• Lobster Motoyaki
• Oyster Panko
• Bbq Squid
• Scampi
• Dancing Scallop Roll
• Mango and Strawberry Oshi
• Tempura Ice Cream
• Japanese Mango Crepe Cake

• Yuzu Gin & Tonic
• Yuzu Lime Highball

Service

I found the hospitality at Uni to exude warmth and genuine care from every staff member. From the moment I stepped through the door to the moment I departed, I felt thoroughly welcomed and attended to.

One aspect that particularly stood out to me was the level of detail provided with each dish. Not only were the presentations exquisite, but the staff took the time to share insights into the inspiration behind their unique twists on traditional dishes. This added layer of context enriched my dining experience, allowing me to immerse myself more deeply in Japanese culture through the culinary journey. The meticulous attention to detail evident throughout Uni’s service is truly remarkable and undoubtedly enhances the overall enjoyment of the dining experience.
