49 Below Ice Cream Is Opening a New Vic West Location This May (With a Community-Created Flavour 🍩)

Vic West, you’re about to have a new go-to for ice cream.

49 Below Ice Cream is getting ready to open its second location at 420 Craigflower Rd, with a target opening set for mid-to-late May (pending final approval from the City of Victoria). If you’ve been to their Oak Bay shop, you already know the vibe, but this new space is bringing a few fun additions with it.

They’ll be scooping 12 flavours to start, but if you’re not in the mood to wait in line (we get it), there will also be grab-and-go options like single-scoop cups, pints, and ice cream bars. They’re also adding ready-to-go ice cream cakes, perfect for those last-minute celebrations or when you forgot to pre-order (no judgement).

One of the coolest parts of this new location? A flavour created with the community. After polling their followers, they’ve developed a Vic West–exclusive called “The 420” named after their Craigflower address. It’s literally built by locals, for locals.

The space itself sounds just as thoughtful as the menu. Local makers helped bring it to life, with hand-painted window lettering, a fun interior mural, and custom cabinetry that shapes the curved seating and front counter. Inside, you’ll also find framed archival photos of the building and past Banfield Park events, little touches that tie the shop into the neighbourhood’s history.

If you’ve walked by recently, you might’ve noticed a few peek-through windows added to the front, giving a behind-the-scenes look at what they’ve been working on

Before they officially open, they’re planning a soft launch ice cream social for Vic West businesses, community leaders, and building tenants as a thank-you to the community. And if you want a first taste, you’ll also be able to find them at Vic West Fest on June 6.

Long story short: your summer ice cream plans just got an upgrade 🍩
