Howl Brewing Opens New Tasting Room in Esquimalt🍻
There’s a new (and very exciting) spot to add to your Esquimalt brewery rotation 👀🍺
Howl Brewing has officially opened the doors to its brand new tasting room at 1209 Lyall Street, marking a big next step for this beloved local nano brewery.
After a quiet soft opening over the weekend, they’re now welcoming guests into the space with limited opening hours to start:
- Wednesdays: 3–6PM
- Fridays: 3–7PM
- Saturdays: 12–5PM
From Farmers Markets to a Full Tasting Room
If you’ve been around the local beer scene for a while, chances are you’ve already come across Howl Brewing at farmers markets, local events, or tucked into a curated tap list around town.
Founded in 2018, Howl has built a reputation for doing things a little differently, focusing on small-batch, high-quality beer made with BC-grown ingredients, often letting what’s locally available guide what ends up in the glass.
After relocating from North Saanich to Esquimalt in April 2024, they’ve been brewing on-site ever since. Now, in April 2026, they’ve finally added the missing piece: a tasting room where you can experience it all right where it’s made.
What Makes Howl Brewing Stand Out
This isn’t your typical lineup of core beers.
Because of their nano scale, Howl leans into:
- 🍇 Hyper-local ingredients (think berries, herbs, botanicals)
- 🍺 Historical and lesser-seen styles
- 🌿 Experimental small batches that change often
It’s the kind of place where you might try a classic Vienna Lager one visit… and a Viking-era ale the next.
What’s You Can Expect
Expect a rotating, ever-changing menu, but here’s a taste of some of the beers they pour:
- Vienna Lager – Light-bodied, crisp, and brewed with BC malt and local hops
- Blueberry Saison – A farmhouse ale with blueberry, bergamot, and orange zest
- Lemon Balm IPA – West Coast IPA with Mosaic, El Dorado & Idaho hops + lemon balm
- Gotlandsdricka – A traditional Viking-style ale with juniper, yarrow, and honey
- Raspberry Elderflower Saison – Bright, floral, and lightly tart
- Belgian Abbey Ale – Rich and complex with notes of fig, clove, and caramel
- Kiwi Rosemary Ale – Fresh, herbal, and super unique
- “The Huntress” Medieval Gruit – A hopless herbal ale packed with botanicals
- Smoked Grodziskie – Light, smoky, and historic in style
Basically… if you’re someone who loves trying something you can’t find everywhere else, this is your spot.
The Vibe
This feels like one of those hidden gems that beer lovers quietly rave about.
• Small, intimate tasting room
• Passion-driven brewing
• A chance to chat directly with the people behind the beer
It’s less about big crowds and more about curiosity, craft, and connection.
